Multiple crews this morning responded to a mill fire at the former Duro Textiles complex at 1 Middle Street in Fall River.

At around 8:15 a.m. heavy fire and smoke were reported from the second floor of the building. By around 9:40 a.m. the fire was under control. Multiple nearby buildings were reportedly evacuated.

The mill building has been vacant, Fall River Fire Cheif John Lynch told reporters. He said the building had mostly cleared out and that there were no known combustibles inside.

Police and fire arson investigators will work to determine the cause, Lynch said.

The Herald News previously reported that the manufacturer abruptly closed its factories in 2016, leaving 157 workers without a job.
