Newly-released court documents show that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev suffered a serious gunshot wound to the head before being captured by police on April 19th.

The federal court documents unsealed yesterday detailed testimony by Dr. Stephen Ray Odom, who testified about Tsarnaev's condition three days after the accused Boston Marathon bombing suspect's arrest.

Odom testified that Tsarnaev sustained a "high-powered injury" that entered the inside of his mouth and exited through the lower left side of his face.  The force of the gunshot resulted in a fracture at the base of the skull as well as injuries to his vertebrae, throat and mouth.

Odom says he could not determine if the gunshot was self-inflicted.
