With the recent expansion of the New Bedford Whaling Museum, one of the most popular exhibits had to be removed.

Museum officials are now looking to duplicate the fo'c'sle, the interactive full-scale portion of a 19th century whale ship's deck and living quarters, and are asking area contractors to submit proposals for the recreation of the exhibit.

Chief curator Christina Connett tells WBSM News the museum wants to recapture the feeling of the original installation, which was crafted by experienced shipbuilders decades ago. "It was just a really fun, interactive experience. We definitely don't want to lose that element in the museum because it was one of our most popular installations," said Connett.

The replica fo'c'sle will be located in the museum's new Discovery Center. Any contractors or shipbuilders interested in spearheading the project can view and download the request for proposal online at WhalingMuseum.org.

The deadline for proposals is November 6.
