More than 400 acres of land surrounding Nasketucket Bay in Fairhaven and Mattapoisett are being preserved and turned into a state park, thanks to the work of the Buzzards Bay Coalition and the state Dept. Of Conservation and Recreation.

The Coalition's Mark Rasmussen tells WBSM News, the land conservation project will increase outdoor recreation opportunities on the SouthCoast...

Rasmussen says the land was purchased from a private owner for $6 million with funding coming from a variety of federal, state and local sources.

An official opening is planned for the spring.
