NEW BEDFORD - The Harbor Development Commission sponsored a public meeting Thursday at the downtown library to gather input about future uses of two waterfront sites.

The meeting encouraged waterfront property owners to offer ideas for the Hicks-Logan-Sawyer site in the north end and NSTAR/Sprague site south of downtown.

HDC Port Director Ed Anthes-Washburn said the northern site would be a great location to promote the city's working waterfront.

"You can have access to the waterfront, learn about the fishing industry, learn about our marine industrial past, present and future but do it in a way that's safe and sort of away from heavier marine industrial activities," Anthes-Washburn said.

Planning will continue through March followed by a draft plan and then a final proposal to be submitted to the city in June.
