The state board of education has approved three new charter schools and eight charter school expansions.

The board voted last night to approve City on a Hill charter schools in Boston and New Bedford, and the UP Academy charter school in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood. It will vote on two more new school proposals today.

In the meantime, the New Bedford Educators Association is asking that the public hearings on two innovation schools is postponed until mid-March. Lou St. John, the NBEA President says not enough information is currently known about the schools to move forward.
