City councilors expressed their frustration with impending changes to New Bedford's FEMA flood map. The council's Ordinance Committee sent the changes to the full council without a recommendation. Council President Joseph Lopes, whose South End district could be heavily affected, said he is working with the mayor's office to appeal some of the changes.

While other towns received exemptions from the map changes, New Bedford did not file an appeal. Individual residents, however, can file their own appeals.
