City Council Votes ‘No Confidence’ in Fall River Mayor
FALL RIVER — The Fall River City Council has taken a vote of no confidence against Mayor Jasiel Correia.
Motions to have Correia removed from office by use of a charter rule failed during last night's meeting, but the no confidence vote passed 8-1 and was topped off with a request from the council for Correia to voluntarily step down from office.
Correia, who faces 13 counts of wire and tax fraud, has stated multiple times that he will not resign amidst the charges.
Meanwhile, residents of Fall River are organizing a recall of the mayor, and are collecting signatures for the petition to move forward. The recall group has until November 19 to submit just 2,510 certified signatures of registered Fall River voters, or 5% of the total of registered voters in the city.
