City Asked To Stand Behind Police Officers

City Council President Brian Gomes hopes the rest of the City will join him in honoring the men and women of the New Bedford Police Department.

Residents can show their support by placing a blue light in their front windows or yards. Those who can't find blue lights are encouraged to post a sign of support.

Gomes explains what made him draft this motion.

The motion also hopes to create a better relationship between young people and the police through community policing and a Young Police Cadet Program.

Students and teachers will get involved by making posters in support of officers and posting them in classroom windows. Three students from every school will be selected for the best posters in support of officers and be awarded Citation by the Council.
