A new community garden was unveiled Tuesday in New Bedford. The Victory Park Children's Garden on Freedom Boulevard in the South End was planted by children and volunteers through the Mass In Motion New Bedford project.

Mayor Jon Mitchell says maintaining a garden teaches the city's children valuable lessons.

Mass in Motion was presented with a $10,000 grant from Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation. The garden produces cucumbers, tomatoes, herbs, and other vegetables with the goal of getting children to eat healthy, natural foods as opposed to potato chips.
