New Bedford Police are urging residents to take precautions following a series of car breaks in the Far North End.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says at least five unlocked vehicles were entered into early Thursday morning.

Vicente says cash and gps was taken from one vehicle, but most vehicles, although rummaged through, didn't have anything of value in them.

The affected streets include Heritage Dr., Angelica Ave., Marlborough St., Sheffield St., and Bartlett St.

A witness told police they spotted an older model dark colored Honda Accord with a loud exhaust circling the area around 3:30 a.m.

Residents are being strongly urged to secure their vehicles and remove any valuables from plain view.

Vicente says that in most cases the suspects will pick a quiet neighborhood and try car handles looking for unlocked doors.

Anyone with information is being asked to call the Detective Division at 508-991-6300 ext. 320 or leave an anonymous tip at 508-961-4584.
