Cape Cod Team Hope Walk Goes Virtual in June
According to a press release from the New England Region of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, HDSA will host the Cape Cod Virtual Team Hope Walk on Saturday, June 13, and registration will be free.
“A virtual walk is a real walk, but on your terms: You get to choose your own course, you can walk in your driveway, neighborhood, in your house, and even on the treadmill,” said Matthew Santamaria, Communications Coordinator for the Huntington's Disease Society of America. “All proceeds support HDSA’s mission to improve the lives of people affected by HD and their families.”
Thousands of families, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and communities walk together each year to support HDSA’s mission to improve the lives of people affected by HD and their families. “May is Huntington’s Disease Awareness Month and this is a great event to have people get together virtually for a great cause that is rarely talked about in the news,” said Santamaria. “In Massachusetts, the total HD population is more than 6,000.”
“COVID-19 has caused stress, fear, and turmoil, all of which HD families are used to as they cope with a fatal genetic neurodegenerative disease that often impacts several family members,” said Virginia Goolkasian, HDSA’s New England Regional Development Director. “This is a strong community and they will show their remarkable resilience as they walk alone but as part of something much greater raising funds for care and a cure.”
