Can the SouthCoast Help to Restore This Cherished Photo of Mom?
“My Mom and I 20 years ago. Can someone help me clean this pic up (photoshop or whatever)? It's the only copy I have.”
Let’s use the internet for good this week and help New Bedford's Mike Almond get this picture of him and his mom remastered in time for Mother’s Day.
Mike’s mom, Rose Almond, died last July and yesterday, May 5, would have been her 81st birthday. He posted a 20-year-old photo of him and his mom to his Facebook page with a plea for someone to help fix it up a bit.
"It's just a photo I love. I remember she didn't want to take it and I talked her into it because I had a picture left on the roll. Remember the actual film? So it's a nice memory since we had no expectations, it's one of my favorites now," he wrote.
If you're a 30-something who’s lost a parent, there is a chance that you find yourself wishing you had more photos with them. People weren’t carrying cameras in their back pockets all the time and it's not uncommon for family photos to be far and few between for us Xennials (that’s people born in the late 70s and early 80s, BTW).
If you do have a photo you cherish, there is also a good chance that the photo has seen some better days and without a very specific set of skills, it can be hard to get those photos back to their original quality. Most of us have that one photo from so long ago that we still hold dear to us, afraid to take it out of the shoebox it lives in because it’s safer there.
So while most of us are still sitting at home, impatiently waiting for the world to reopen, let's focus our energy on helping Mike get this beloved photo of him and his mom fixed up so it lasts another 20 years from now. Think you have what it takes to reinterpret it into a line drawing or painting? Go for it, and leave your renditions in the comments. No gesture is too small when it comes to mom, right?
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there. Know that we all have that one photo of you that we absolutely love, safely tucked away so you can stay with us forever.
