The auction for the New Bedford Butler Flats Lighthouse has been postponed.

General Service Administration spokesperson Patrick Sclafani tells WBSM News rough seas and other factors have hampered site inspections for interested bidders over the past few days, including a deteriorated ladder on the lighthouse.

Sclafani says at least nine interested individuals turned out for the site inspection.

Until the lighthouse is made safe for a visit, the auction is being postponed. Sclafani expects the bidding to resume next spring.

Three bidders have made offers on the 115-year-old lighthouse, with the highest offer at $55,000.
