NEW BEDFORD — Police have arrested a Brooklyn man after he allegedly broke into a New Bedford home.

Police responded to an apartment at 324 Brock Avenue at about 4:50 p.m. on Monday after receiving a report from the resident that his home was broken into.

Officers at the scene learned that the suspect had entered the apartment without the resident's permission and tried to prevent the victim from calling police. The resident was able to successfully notify police of the incident.

The suspect, who was known to the victim, allegedly left the scene with several items from the apartment. He reportedly damaged property in the home before he left.

After an investigation, police arrested the suspect, Jeff Cadet, 37, of 354 E 96th Street, Brooklyn, New York.

Cadet is charged with breaking into a building during the daytime for a felony, malicious destruction of property over $1,200, malicious destruction of property less than $1,200, witness intimidation, and larceny from a building.
