The wintry weather has been nothing less than harsh these past few weeks and there are veterans left out in the cold. Luckily there's a group out of Fall River that is looking to solve this tough situation.

The Veterans Association of Bristol County, located at 755 Pine Street, is keeping local veterans clothed and warm this winter on Wednesday, February 16, and Thursday, February 17, with hundreds of free coats that were generously donated.

"As of right now, we just received about 150 coats," Administrative Assistance Director Kim Carvalho-Wagner said. "These coats are brand new and still packaged up with a variety of sizes for both men and women. Any veteran in need of a winter coat is more than welcome, we encourage them to come down and we'll take good care of their well-being."

The mission is clear at the VABC: to keep everybody warm. Although they are located in Fall River, the VABC also takes care of veterans near Bristol County such as Wareham, Onset, Brockton, etc.

"No veteran should be cold during this cold season, and even though it's been warmer lately, the temperature is bound to plummet again soon enough," Carvalho-Wagner said. "We also have a food pantry that's available once every 30 days, an ongoing food rescue room where Veterans can take home a loaf of bread, canned goods, and even medical supplies."

Giving back to their community is a priority. The Veterans Association even provides lunch from Monday through Thursday, including widows and widow caretakers, as well as a pop-up clothing store where vets can pick out clothes at no cost to them.
