They are living the dream! The Bishop Stang Spartans are now the 2016 Massachusetts Division 3 basketball state champs!

The Spartans defeated Oxford 80-64 on Saturday at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield.

According to Wicked Local.com, Spartans head coach, Colbey Santos stated that “he talked about a state championship from Day 1. It was the third of Stang’s three goals. Goal No. 1 was to qualify for the playoffs. No. 2, winning the Eastern Athletic Conference, was not achieved, thanks to Division 2 power Bishop Feehan.”

The third goal, which was the big one, was finally achieved with a 20-point win in the state semifinals and the 16-point margin in the final.

Stang has worked hard to strive towards being state champs since the season kicked off, and it paid off because they hold the 2016 Division 3 State Basketball trophy.
