Another member of the Backstreet Boys is going solo. AJ McLean just announced a brand new tour, under a new moniker: Alexander James. "For over 30 years, you’ve known me as AJ," he wrote on Instagram. "This fall, I’m inviting you into a different chapter."

Introducing a Brand New Musical Chapter

The boy band member is not parting with the Grammy-winning group, but he is working on more of his own music. McLean kicks off Alexander James: The Better Man Tour in October, making 27 stops across the country. Local fans will be thrilled to know that two of those dates are right in our own backyard.

When and Where to Catch the New England Shows

On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, McLean takes the stage in Cranston, Rhode  Island. He returns to the area for a Boston performance on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Exact venues have not yet been announced, but he encouraged fans to follow his tour website as locations are locked down.

A Deeply Personal Project Rooted in Healing

He released his solo album My Name Is Alexander James in January of 2026, but had yet to go on tour – until now. "These songs come from the most personal project I’ve ever made," McLean wrote. "My Name Is Alexander James is about growth, gratitude, healing, and finding the courage to show up as your true self. Thank you for always showing up for me. Now it’s my turn to show up for you."

McLean released his debut album Have It All in 2010, adding him to the list of fellow bandmates who have come out with solo projects. Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough and Nick Carter have all released solo albums. Kevin Richardson, the only member who hasn't released his own, has explored other creative avenues like Broadway and acting.

Given the group's decades-long success and their sold-out shows during their Vegas residency at The Sphere, I have a strong feeling McLean's tour will be a successful one.

"So…who’s coming to see me?" McLean wrote.
