Baby Names That Could Be Popular in 2024
What's in a name? A lot when selecting a moniker that your child must endure for the rest of his or her natural life.
Each year, we post a list of the most popular baby names selected by Massachusetts parents the year before. Sometime after the first of the year, we will learn what the top 100 names were for the current year. We will share them with you.
The Social Security Administration lists the top 100 baby names for boys and girls born in Massachusetts every year between 1960 and 2022. The SSA will add 2023's favorite names early in 2024.
While we don't know which names will top the list of parents expecting their bundles of joy in 2024, some are reading the tea leaves to try and ascertain a clue as to what some of the names will be.
One such person is Steph Coffield of Minnesota, a consultant for expecting parents. Coffield thinks she is on to the trends for 2024: "surnames as first names."
Coffield's predictions for 2024 are part of a recent story on Yahoo News. SWNS and the New York Post carried versions of the story. Yahoo says Coffield believes that "gender-neutral names will continue to rise in popularity as more people choose one name pre-birth that works for any gender."
According to the Star-Tribune, Minnisota's largest newspaper, Coffield "charges $50 to $600 for a customized list of names of anything needing naming." That includes kids and dogs.
Some of the girls' names that Coffield expects to see plenty of in 2024 include Collins, Juniper and Sloane. Boys' names include Carter, Wayland and Harrison.
