Her vehicle, a Toyota Avalon, had been pulled over in the shoulder of the two-lane highway, the D.A.’s Office said, and for reasons unknown at this time appears to have been outside her vehicle along the driver’s side.

A Ford F-150 driven by a 50-year-old New Bedford man appears to have sideswiped the rear driver’s side of the Toyota, the D.A.’s Office said, and struck Swartzendruber. She was declared deceased at the scene.

The driver of the truck remained on the scene and was cooperative with police and was not found to be under the influence. The D.A.’s Office said he is not presently under arrest, but his truck was seized and the investigation remains ongoing as to whether or not there will be any criminal charges.
