A New Bedford man is under arrest in connection with a weekend shooting in the city.

New Bedford Detective Captain Steven Vicente says detectives with the Gang Unit found the suspect, 20-year-old Josiahi Matos, in the basement of 5 Bonneau Court, which is next door to where the shooting took place.

One man was injured in the Sunday morning shooting on Sawyer Street. The 32-year-old victim said he had been shot in the legs several times by someone he knows.

Matos was arrested without incident and has been arraigned in New Bedford District Court on charges of armed assault in a dwelling, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, unlawfully carrying a firearm, and dishcarging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.

Detectives are still working on a motive for the shooting. A firearm has yet to be recovered. The investigation is ongoing.
