FALL RIVER — A 37-year-old Fall River man has been arrested in connection to this morning's fatal motor vehicle crash in Fall River.

Irvin Dominguez-Cruz was charged this evening with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, motor vehicle homicide by means of negligent operation, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and failure to yield to an oncoming vehicle.

The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow morning in Fall River District Court.

Fall River Police received a 911 call this morning around 6 a.m. regarding a crash involving a motorcycle and a box truck in the area of 2345 Highland Avenue. When first responders arrived, they located the severely injured driver of the motorcycle and rushed him to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 7 a.m.

The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Christopher P. Mills of Taunton.

A preliminary accident reconstruction analysis indicates that the motorcycle was traveling north on Highland Avenue when the box truck, which was traveling south on Highland Avenue, began to turn onto Courtney Street. The motorcycle then attempted to stop, creating a 25-to-30-yard skid mark prior to striking the passenger side of the box truck. This information is only preliminary, and a more extensive investigation into the crash is ongoing.

The male operator of the box truck left the scene and was arrested at his home in Fall River. He was not injured during the crash.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Michael Cahillane.
