NEW BEDFORD — Yet another suspicious fire is under investigation in New Bedford's near North End.

An early-morning fire Thursday at the Purity Services Laundry located at 405 Myrtle Street was minimized due to the building's fire suppression system.

It is unknown at this time if this fire is connected to the rash of suspected arson cases in the city's near North End over the summer.

Jennifer Mieth, spokeswoman for the state Fire Marshal's office, said the fire "is being characterized as suspicious at this time." Mieth says the fire is under joint investigation by the New Bedford Fire and Police Departments, as well as State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Anyone with information is asked to make call the Arson Hotline, confidentially, 24 hours a day at 1-800-682-9229.
