Another Phone Scam Fooling Residents

New Bedford Police are warning residents of yet another apparent phone scam.

The latest scheme seems to target elderly women, telling them over the phone they owe large sums of money to the federal government. The calls come from area code 202, which is based out of Washington, D.C..

Potential victims are told if they don't pay up, there are warrants out for their arrest that will be executed. The victims are told to send payments to clear the warrants and to begin a payment plan.

New Bedford Police advise residents not to give out personal information or to send money without checking with their local police department.
