The Trustees of Reservations welcomed the public to the Allen Haskell Public Gardens in New Bedford on Sunday.

The six acre site was the home of famed horticulturalist Allen Haskell, known throughout the nation and the world for his floral creations.

The Trustees aquired the Shawmut Avenue property in 2013, and continue to raise money for renovations. Barbara Erickson is the Trustees Executive Director...

The Trustees have a five year vision for the gardens, but they're still looking for other concepts. They were collecting ideas on Sunday during the grand opening.

The gardens also include 30,000 square feet of greenhouse space, plus two historic residences which are also being preserved. To learn more about the project, visit thetrustees.org
