New Bedford Regional Airport is getting some federal funds.

Congressman William Keating announced on Friday that the Federal Aviation Administration has awarded the airport two grants totaling $179,370.

One grant will be put towards addressing environmental concerns and identifying and removing vegetative obstructions to Runway 23.

The other grant will fund a survey that will identify obstructions that will be removed from runways.

“The New Bedford Regional Airport is a vital transportation hub, driving business activity and helping grow the local economy,” said Keating. “These grants will provide necessary upgrades that will not only ensure New Bedford’s ability to meet environmental guidelines but will enable it to operate safely and effectively.”
