Residents of Acushnet's four mobile home parks are a step closer to rent control. The Massachusetts House enacted Acushnet's petition to form a rent review board.

The petition had already been passed by the House and the Senate in August, but needed to be "enacted" by both before being sent to the Governor to sign. State Representative Robert Koczera says he expects the bill will be enacted in the Senate and signed by Gov. Deval Patrick "within a reasonably short period of time."

Once signed, the bill will create a rent control board in Acushnet to oversee the town's four mobile home parks. Koczera sponsored the bill in the house after tenants of the Brookside mobile home park complained of skyrocketing rents.
