According NBC News, Aaron Hernandez, the former star tight end for the New England Patriots, was convicted Wednesday of first-degree murder.

Hernandez was charged with the June 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd, who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancée and who was shot six times. His body was found in an industrial park not far from Hernandez's home in Massachusetts.

Jury deliberations began April 7, and on April 15, a verdict of guilty of murder in the first degree was reached.

The prosecution called more than 100 witnesses in two months of testimony. Surveillance video at Hernandez's home shortly before the shooting showed him holding what appeared to be a gun, and a joint near Lloyd's body had Hernandez and Lloyd's DNA on it.
