A number of New Bedford's headliner projects would see improvements under a $1.6 billion Environmental Bond bill just passed in a house committee.

Representative Antonio Cabral, Chairman of the Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets, says the bill now goes from his committee to the house Ways and Means Committee, with $78.5 million earmarked for local projects.

Cabral tells WBSM News $16 million would go towards reinforcing the State Pier.

A bulk of the funding would go towards maintenance dredging for the South Terminal Maritime Project, with the rest dispersed to other improvement projects.

If passed with all earmarks intact, Governor Deval Patrick must still approve spending for specific projects.
