And finally, when I went to lay down at midnight, I went, it was about 12 12:05 that I laid down to go to bed, knowing that I was getting up at 4:00 a.m. And normally I have no problem just drift drifting right off to sleep. But last night, I was like, uh, what what did I forget do? What didn't I do? So instead of thinking about all the stuff that I did do, it's always what did you forget to do? So it's I I don't know that it's, you know, necessarily a theft ring. That sounds a little bit more dramatic than what it might be, but there are a couple of stores, a couple of businesses in New Bedford that have posted security videos of the same individuals allegedly stealing from their stores. So, uh, Deep Finds, which is a a great store in Kilburn Mill where they sell throwback stuff, retro stuff. Uh, I like to go in there and buy like retro t-shirts and things like that. But they had the these folks came in and I think there was four people in the group and they do this maneuver where one walks over to something and he's carrying a bag and then another one comes over and kind of blocks the camera view. They're like looking to see where the cameras are. This one blocks the camera view so that the other person can take stuff and and put it in the bag. and they pulled this scheme at Deep Finds and then they also did it at the Aushnet River Antiques and they also posted video of of what appears to be these these folks stealing from them. So, and then a lot of the other businesses were sharing and saying like this is terrible like let's find these people. Um, we didn't write a story about it because I don't like to report on alleged theft using surveillance footage if that has not been reported to police. And what often happens is the business owners, they don't want to report it to the police for a couple of reasons. one, you know, they they generally don't want these people to to really, you know, they don't want them to go to jail. They just want them to return the merchandise and stop doing what they're doing. Like, they're not looking to ruin somebody's life because, you know, that a lot of times when people steal, it can be because they're struggling and they need help. And so, you know, they're trying to be compassionate and and and have some humanity and and not throw the book at them. And then the other thing is you start reporting theft, your insurance will go up. So I like I totally understand why there's a reluctance to report it to the police. However, if there is no police report on these alleged thefts, I am not comfortable reporting on it because that's just a random person saying a crime was committed. If and believe me, there's been situations before where you get burned on that. you write a story saying somebody allegedly stole something and you put this the video footage up and or a still shot from the video or whatever it may be and then it turns out it was a misunderstanding and now you've put out a story with this person's face accusing them of theft and the internet is forever. So that's why I don't like to to post it up unless there's a police report and the police have said we're looking for the So that's what happened when this when the card shop was robbed downtown and the people stole the expensive Pokemon cards. You know, we didn't jump on that when everybody was was sharing it around. We wait until the police put something out on it because now we know it is being investigated as a crime. And as such, like we report when people are formally accused of a crime, not when someone an individual or a business accuses them of a crime. You get what I'm saying? So, um, but however, the the folks at Deep Finds did say that they are they were going to be contacting the police about it. They just had not when I spoke to them and certainly not when it first happened because again, you're just hoping the people do the right thing. Bring the stuff back, apologize. Okay. never come back to the store. You know, that's that's the way you want to have it end. But this went into something a little bit more um serious in that when they started to realize that they were doing this at other places. You know, some people steal because they need to. Some some people steal because they do it for the thrill of it. These people seem like they had a an MO. They seem like they had a strategy. They had it all planned out. My girl used to work at CVS on the night uh 2 to 10 ship and uh it's CVS on Dartmouth Street. It's right on the New Bedford border, but it's in Dartmouth on the left. Mhm. And I just sit in the parking lot and in they come well this particular group that hits there. They'll take the whole shelves, one of the whole shells or whatever and bag it and run out. And I watch I followed them and they and they go they're from Blue Meadows right over right over across from McDonald's on Rockdale and Dartmouth Street. That one gang that's been there. And CBS doesn't do anything about it. You know, I I even awkward to go in there, but I have to fight I don't know, six of them, you know. So, but they don't have any security. And I just sat out there and followed them a couple of times. And they go, they bring it all the blue meadows. And my sources tell me that that they sell it to up the north end. These little shops up there, Guatemalan shops, uh uh stuff like that along uh Kushner Avenue from uh Soya Street North in that little Guatemala I call it. But they sell a lot of those products, those stores, and the stores resell it to the public. So yeah, a lot of stores, you know, their company policy is, you know, don't don't chase after shoplifterss. Don't and and a big part of that is because, you know, yes, people have been prosecuted for putting hands on people and all kinds of things like that. But the other side of it, too, is it's not worth losing the employees life over whatever that item cost them, you know? So, and my and I'm I I want to go in there and try to help, but I can't. I'm just one man and I don't know if they have weapons and so I didn't I I never intervened but I did follow and because I sit out in the parking lot and they don't even know I'm there, you know. So, uh but I did follow them a couple of times and they go right to Blue Meadows. They're from the ones in the south. Well, hopefully uh hopefully CVS can do a little something about that. But the these these folks these folks that are doing it in these videos that I've seen, it looks like it's about four people. And you know, I don't I I don't know if they're like reselling this stuff or if they're just doing it for the thrill of it, but they they seem to Oh my god. Yeah. They're taking a thought too much. They are they are reselling that. They're selling it to those stores up in Yeah. I don't think they're selling this stuff to those stores. These these are these are pretty these are pretty particular items, you know, like vintage vintage t-shirts and antiques, you know. Oh, okay. But I'm talking about CVS, you know, the stuff that products in there and they they know what to go after. They go after the expensive stuff like the expensive perfumes and u stuff like that. And the morning after pill, I don't even know why that's on the shelf. It's 50 bucks. They just wiped that right out, you know. That's an easy cell, you know, on the on the street. You probably got 25 bucks for it. Yeah. You know, so I followed them. And they went they they're from Blue Meadows is the one that hit CVS. Anyway, all right. Thank you for the call. All right. Well, then have a good day. 508996500 app chat and openline voicemails on the WBSM app. And you know, maybe this is part of the reason why the Dartmouth Mall is implementing its new policy uh against well, its new policy to keep kids under 18 from roaming around without adult supervision on Fridays and Saturdays after 5:00 p.m. It it's it's also it says in the policy that the mall can enact it at any other time. So, if there's all of a sudden a large group of teenagers that just start to gather there, like on a Wednesday at 3 p.m., the mall can say, "Hey, that rule is in effect now. You all have to go home." And they, according to the information that they put out, they, you know, they're saying that they could require ID. So, here's here's the rules. All right, let me let me give you this. You can read more about this at wbsm.com and the WBSM app. But here's what's going to happen. Starting tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. July 3rd, Friday, July 3rd at 5:00 p.m., anyone under the age of 18 is required to be accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian who is 21 years or older on Fridays and Saturdays starting at 5:00 p.m. And it says the policy may also be placed into effect at other times. It not only covers the inside of the mall, but also extends to the parking lot and garages. Again, not not an incident, not not an issue with this mall with the garage, foot mall walkways in any corridor leading to the mall. It does exempt stores with exterior entrances. So in that case it would be like Aldi, Ulta Beauty, Buffalo Wild Wings. Uh and the security guard had called into us yesterday and said that stores like Burlington, JC Penney, AMC theaters where you could walk into the mall from there, they're going to have security guards at the mall side entrance to make sure that you know the kids don't go into the mall. And the idea is that Oh, I just realized there's a a weird pasting in here in the story. I'll have to fix that. But it says here that uh one parent over 21 years of age may escort all of his or her children. Additionally, one parent or guardian over 21 years of age may escort up to four youths, but at least one of the youths must be the child of the parent or guardian. So you could bring your son and your son's friends. Uh you could bring all four of your kids. You know that but the parent or guardian is responsible for the actions of the escorted youth. Proof of age will also be required if not easily determined and that would include a photo ID from a state agency like a driver's license or a state issued ID, school or employer ID that shows a date of birth. Both the youth and or the parent or guardian could be asked to provide ID. Well, what kid is carrying ID? I mean, I guess if they're old enough to drive, they'll have a driver's license, but maybe they don't have a license. And it says even during the hours when youth are allowed into the mall unsupervised, so you know outside of those 5:00 PM to close hours on Fridays and Saturdays, the code of conduct for the mall says that mall management has the right to prohibit groups of four or more individuals to congregate or walk in the interior or exterior of the mall unless the group has appropriate adult supervision. So that means if if it's the time where it's okay, I it's it's again Wednesday at a Wednesday afternoon, 3 p.m. It's an okay time for the kids to be in the mall. Those restrictions are not in place. Four kids are walking through the mall together. The mall security can say to them like, "Nope, you can't be here. We can't have a group of four of you." Like that. It just seems It just seems too much. And by the way, how you you really want to make it so that malls don't survive? Take an entire generation out of the mall and then see what happens. If you want people to be shopping at the mall, and listen, if I was a 17-year-old kid and a mall told me this, I'd say, "Okay, I don't have any reason to go to that mall ever." Now, I'm not going when I'm allowed. I'm not going with a parent, I'm not spending my money there. And then when I am 18 years old or 21 or 30, I'm still not going and spending my money with you. When I go to the mall, I'm stopping into a lot of those stores and just walking around taking a look. And and some of them I I do buy a lot of things in. And I would like to think that the next generation will do the same, but not if they don't feel welcome. And you know, obviously the kids that are troublemakers not being allowed in, they're not going to take that personally cuz they were troublemakers. They know that they were troublemakers. They know that they were causing a problem. It's the kids that aren't doing anything wrong that have to face this because of those kids that are. Instead of the mall or the stores solving the problem, they're just trying to eliminate the circumstances that lead to the problem. How about putting a thing so people can vote IDs? I'm, like I said, I'm I'm against any impediment that would allow people to vote. I'm all for making it as easy as possible. Now, if the government wanted to just, you know, if they were going to come to your house and give you an ID and say, "Here, just bring this with you when you go to vote, all paid for. It's all yours." That'd be one thing. But anything that would require people to go and get the license, go and get the the ID to vote or go and have to spend money in order to get it to vote, I would be against that because that's an impediment against their constitutional right to vote. Boy, common sense. That's all I got to use. They're not using common sense. You're going to get a lot of problems and everybody Well, that's my opinion. And I don't know what to do with them. They're some of them are old and weathered and I and I keep them. I bring them in, you know, I roll them up. But I don't know. I don't know. I just don't have the heart to throw them out. And I don't know what to do. Does anybody know like to bring bring them to the VFW? Okay. They all right. That's a good idea. They'll take care of it. But at the same time, it's, you know, at least it's just two days out of the week, right? But come winter time, a lot of that Christmas shopping money starts in in uh Thanksgiving straight through to New Year's, right? So, they're going to lose a lot of money from these these kids. Also, it it it you know, they're allowing the kids to come in there to work and and earn the money. So, that but they have to go right to their job and leave right from their job afterward. Like, so you're basically saying like you're good enough to come in here to work, but you're not good enough to stay here and spend the money that you just earned in in in other stores. Yeah. No, I know. I I was like really shocked. I thought I heard it wrong and I was like, "Wow, I can't believe this is really really happening. It's come to this point." I don't know. But like you said yesterday, they can come into like like Burlington. They can use that entrance. So the stores that have their own outside entrance they can go into but they can't go beyond that. Right. They can't go into the mall side of things, right? Into the middle of the mall. Yeah. And and who as a teenager when did you ever go like with just two people? You and your friend maybe. Right. But Oh, I I mean when I was a teenager I went to the mall by myself all the time. Oh yeah. I mean I went with my friends all I remember with my friends a lot too. But like if I needed to get something like I wasn't waiting around for friends to go with me. I would just go. Right. Right. Right. But no, what I was going to say is Yeah. You always wanted like a group of friends, you know. It's it's the thing to do. It's it we used to go like in the handover mall, the orange Julius. I think that was the name of it. And we'd all just, you know, sit around, get a Julius, and just sit around, kick it, and just Yeah. It's It sounds to me like they just That's what they want to avoid. They don't want teenagers just hanging around in the mall. Well, okay, then. I don't want any group of people just hanging around in the mall. Have all those people with their kids that are in the little play area over by by Macy's. Have them get out, too. Have them stop hanging around not buying something. Have all the old people that go there just to walk around, have them get out of the mall, too. Yeah, they sit on the recliners. I was going to say that, too. Throw us old people out, too. The recliners are there and sometimes people sit and and again, I don't I don't really think that. I think it's very common for everyone to carry an ID. Yeah, but not everybody not everybody does. If a if a kid doesn't have a license, if he hasn't gone and gotten his license yet, does he walk around with his school ID in his pocket all the time in the summertime? You know, I think it's entirely possible that somebody doesn't have an ID or doesn't have it on them. And it's also a typical right-wing dork to immediately have to say typical leftist. No, I'm just a realist that says, why do I have to carry an ID with me to go to the mall? I shouldn't have to show my ID to go to the mall. I'm coming there and doing you a favor by spending money. I'm keeping your tenants in business and you're trying to keep me from coming in. Like I said, you know, you the kids are good enough to work there. They're not good enough to to shop there. Here's the problem is we don't know what the rationale is for what led to this. If we know the rationale, then you might say, "Well, that's understandable if you're having that much problem." I still think it's on the mall and on the stores to solve the problem rather than just blanket ban people. But at the same time, if it is something that has gone on that's significant and serious and they might have tried to take those measures and that still didn't work. But we don't know that. So then you're left to think, well, what else could it be? Is it that people just complain that teenagers are walking around the mall? Oh, well then don't go to a mall cuz that's what a mall has always been. Groups of teenagers walking around. And you know who those teenagers are? The people that eventually have the disposable income to just be spending it at the mall. Maybe not when they're 12, 13 years old, but when they're 15, 16, 17 and they're getting their summer jobs, their after school jobs, they're going to come there and spend money. The primary crimes included attempted rape of a child, commercial sex abuse of a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor, and unlawful possession of a firearm. I'm Brad Ford. A former corrections officer has been banned from hunting for life following convictions in two poaching cases. 48-year-old Christopher Matson illegally took multiple big game animals, including a black bear, elk, and deer. He faced 67 charges in multiple counties in Oregon. He was sentenced this week to two years probation, 300 hours of community service, forfeiture of seized guns and other property, and more than $114,000 in fines. His hunting license also revoked for life. The Trump administration issuing emergency orders for a Mid-Atlantic power grid due to this week's heatwave. The energy department aims to maximize output as well as all-time heat records are expected to be broken throughout the east coast in the next few days. Energy Secretary Chris Wright issuing orders to dispatch more power generation from several fossil fuel plants during periods of high demand. Wright says the directive will ensure Americans have reliable power across the Mid-Atlantic to cool their homes. The Trump administration suing to block California's new ban on the retail sale of Glock style pistols. The lawsuit was filed today in Los Angeles. With the lawsuit, the federal government is also looking to prevent the enforcement of the state's handgun roster. The list limits the number of legal guns that people are allowed to purchase. The US Department of Justice says both rules are unlawful under the Second Amendment. The US Supreme Court recently reaffirmed the Second and 14th Amendments protect the right to carry handguns outside of the home for self-defense. On Tuesday, more than 250 cleaners with a 32BJ SEIU voted to authorize a strike for the first time in two decades. The CDC is investigating a mysterious diarrhea outbreak unrelated to international travel that's turned up in New York, New Jersey, and 15 other states. It's called cycllosporasis and it's caused by a microscopic parasite that gets into the body through food and water contaminated by feces. New York has been hit the hardest, anywhere from 31 to 80 of the 145 cases reported. New Jersey is second. Cases have been reported from Alaska to Texas to Florida. Symptoms include watery diarrhea, stomach cramping, gas, nausea, vomiting, and fatigue. 20 people hospitalized during this outbreak which began two months ago. Now, usually uh in the mall, if you're an employee in one of the stores, there's a lanyard with your employee ID. So, if you're a youngster, you trying to get some bucks so you can save up and you buy those things that you like, you're not going to be able to go and get a pizza on. No. According to this policy, it says you've got to go right to your job and then when your job is over, you got to go right back out. That's ridiculous. Even with their own I even with a store employee ID. That's ridiculous. You know, over the years, uh you know, many of us will go there to the mall. you see the the mall security and they do their patrols up and down the mall and you know in the past if anybody was acting up they would be escorted out of the mall and if it was bad enough they call uh the police to go and uh you know take them off. So uh what is it? You got to be 21 or older to come in the mall on Friday and Saturday nights. It's 18 for uh Friday and Saturday after 5:00 p.m. That's ridiculous. that mall's not doing that much there. You know, you have to remember it's been bought and sold by uh different investment uh groups. I think it was under Acorn at one point they filed Chapter 11 or whatever it was. I don't see many people going there anyway. At least when I went. No, when I go it's it's always pretty busy when I go. Uh not like the heyday, but still still pretty busy and certainly better than other malls. But what I will say is, you know, these rules are in place. They're on paper in case they need to enforce them. But, you know, that that's what it all depends on. How much are they really going to enforce that? If there's a 17-year-old kid, you know, working at Hot Topic and then that kid wants to go get a slice of pizza at Reonies before they start, I don't think, you know, I don't think mall security is going to, you know, grab them and and toss them out. You'd be you'd be surprised. They probably be uh who knows. I mean, then they might come back late and say, "Hey, what are you doing here?" And you even go to a Don't they have a tropical smoothie in there? Or they used to? I don't know. No, something to drink. Yeah, they they have like a auntie Anns, they have a Carell, they have a Yeah, there's little things like that. So, what are they going to do to the oldtimes that go up there and they do their marathon up and down? They're going to get booted out, too. It doesn't make sense. And uh yeah, I I I heard the news about the decision or the uh supposed decision regarding Paul and Al, the 36-year veterans of WHJY in Providence. 36 years they've been getting Southern New England up and ready every day. And I was a big fan when I was younger. Obviously I don't listen to them now. A little busy at the same time they're on. Um and really I stopped listening to them when I started working here and you know being involved with the programming here. Otherwise I'd still be listening to them. So they were obviously huge influences on me and not only like my radio career but also just my sense of humor and 36 years at any job is a great run. But you also hope that with 36 years of service you get to decide when you're going to hang it up. And I'm hoping that they are involved in that decision. But we don't know yet. You know that they've basically just said keep listening. But the the rumor or the story is the the news that's out there is that uh their contract is not being renewed in September, they'll be done. So, we'll get more information on that, but if this is the end of their run, what a run it's been. And uh I will definitely pay more tribute to them as we go forward. I I asked permission. I said I said to our our big boss here, I said, "I want to talk about Paul and Al. Is that okay?" And he just looked at me and he goes, "Absolutely, of course." So none of that whole like we can't we can't admit that they exist kind of thing like other radio stations do. No, we're gonna we'll pay homage and and certainly he knows because he's he comes from Providence Radio himself being involved with WBRU. I've talked about that in the past. We have that that connection to WBRU which is why, you know, I want to keep that that Gen X alternative rock spirit alive. But anyway, 5089960500. I think that's ridiculous. Um, when we were kids, we all, you know, we all went over there and uh at night that was something to do and we did some shopping, too. But, I mean, what was their reasoning for this? Did they say? So, they didn't give a like they didn't give us a scenario or anything that particularly caused it. Uh what they said was they just they gave us a statement which I still got to fix. Uh where they said it's in an effort to create a more comfortable environment for all visitors. They said this proactive measure is designed to address concerns raised by shoppers about unsupervised minors gathering in large groups which can sometimes disrupt the shopping experience. And if that's all that it is, if it's people being like, I don't feel comfortable with these large group of teenagers, like I think that's discriminatory. Oh yeah, that's not that's not right at all. They're going to lose a lot of business because um you know, there really isn't too much to do in Dartmouth. I Yeah, I don't know if they feel that they will lose a lot of business because maybe their thought process is these kids aren't spending money. They're just hanging out. And like the places where they do spend money, like maybe they go to Buffalo Wild Wings for something to eat, maybe they go to the movies, they can still go to those places. Yeah. Well, I don't know. I just um Don't they do they still have the arcade there? Uh they have that virtual reality place now, but they don't have the arcade like they used to have. Well, a lot of the kids like to go, you know, for that. And um I don't know. My my nephew went the other day for the first time with his friend. He's going to be 14 just for the day, but they only went for a couple hours. They were bored. So, it was they had money to spend, but they didn't they just bought food. But, um I don't know. It's not fair to the kids that work there either. It's not at all. I wouldn't even work there if they did that. They couldn't go out afterwards, you know, and have a piece of pizza or uh with a friend from there that works in another store or something like that for a lunch supper break or whatever. I don't think it's Yeah. It's like, you know, if a kid is 18 and he uh 17 and he can't go to the mall because of this policy, do you think when he's 19 he's going to be like, "Okay, now I'll go to the mall." Or do you think he's going to be like, "You know what? I'll go shop somewhere else. Yeah, no kidding. Really? There's nothing really that Well, I haven't been to that model in a long time anyway, but there's really isn't too much in there anymore, but I mean, but the little kids, they have the um they can go with of course they're with their parents. That ball room there with the ball. What do they call that room there that they have the activities for little ones? Yeah, I'm not sure. Yeah. Anyway, but yeah, I'm against it. All right.
