But, um, you know, we really do need it. although three or four inches fell uh not so long ago which is real good news for the region we were in a severe drought situation still are um dealing with that but um you know when 10% of your water supply falls in one day that's pretty good we average 41 in a year and 3 to 4 inches fell in in the region so that that has to have been helpful yeah there was a lot there was a lot of issues on the road um when was that Ken this week it was this week Yeah. Yeah. There was a lot of problems on the roads. Yeah. But the ground Yeah. Cuz when the ground doesn't have water in a while, it's the water will beat up and stay on the surface for a while. They're oper they're operating in a deficit, right? They cut they find cuts which is a responsible thing to do and he's he's yelling at them uh wrote a letter in everything. Ryan uh I disagreed with him and find find there's got to be some look at what are you doing with the money. Are they are they paving the roads in New rough roads out there. My word you know uh Allen Street west of uh Rockdale is just a terrible eyesore for a main drag like that. Right. That's That's not even one of the top 10 worst ones. There's some people out there who are furious with their road situations. Ken, which way are you going towards Dartmouth? Once you're at on Rockdale, you take a ride on Allen towards Dartmouth. Um that road's that road that's badly in need of repairs. But again, there's that's a main road. There are some roads that are just unbelievable when you when you um you say, "Did you call the city hall?" Ken, doesn't that doesn't that um like I know there's a sec when you take a right from Rockdale to Allen. Doesn't that switch over to Dortmund though eventually? Yes. Why don't you go into Dartmouth? Um and he didn't even want the New Bedford Light uh to to get the information on it. He tried to he tried to hide from it. Um they eventually got got their way. It was good work by the light um to to get that information. There's another million and a half to the immigration building u on a cushion and a half million and a half. That's what he's he's arguing over this money. Well, and you get to throw it at things you like. These guys are trying to find cuts to um be responsible. I'm I'm going to side with the city council on this one, you know. Um and again, we're looking at a police department that's going on we're approaching 800 days without a contract, right? It's ridiculous. But um and and they're out there every day, Ken. Yep. Without a contract. Yep. You wonder if he wins the next one. Depends on who comes up. I guess if he's if he runs again for mayor. I think he's going to stay in politics. I don't know. It'd be next year, right? Yeah. Yeah. The four years is up next year. Who would run? So, I think I think some people are eyeballing Keading's soon to be open seat. And I think Metro might be on that list. Yeah, there was a lot. Um I'd rather see him than Andrea Campbell. Ken, well, she need But you know, if she is running for a higher office, she's going to need these same Democrats on Beacon Hill to help her. So that's right. She has defied the will of the governed and this is a state that has a ton of liberals on the street saying no kings and they're being dictated to the rule of law does not apply here in Massachusetts. It's Boy, could we learn from them. And I saw I um I think there was one game in the New York New Jersey stadium. Yeah, I I think it was Japan, Ken. They they cleaned the whole like stadium and Jameus Winston helped out. Yeah, I do remember remember that. Um I mean, you know, having gone to Europe as I have, the streets, the the cities are much cleaner. There's not there's no there's not debris. Um I would say Naples, Italy being the exception. that was um they've got overrun with problems with with migrants and homelessness as a result. Um but it is embarrassing how bad Naples is. But Rome Rome kind of has that problem. Uh but it's any big city is going to have its problems, but it is way way cleaner than USA. Yeah, we just don't care, I guess. Ken, if if you're like if you're a fan like say of soccer in general, like if you don't watch it, like if there's like a World Cup, okay, like I watch it. I watch the English Premier League. I I know you do you keep an eye on But you keep an eye on a lot of sports, Ryan. People People listening know that you are very well verssed on a number of sports. Like one team I'm happy for if if you're a fan of like soccer in general is Kate Bird and Ken. Who's your second favorite uh pair in uh pickle pickle ball toss? That's you. That's that's probably not a good idea. But, um I mean, a Cape for baseball purists who don't know, I mean, going to a Cape Cod League, you're seeing future MLB stars. This it's a very impressive league. Uh all most of the major baseball scouts are on Cape Cod during the summer. It's the best baseball league in the country during the summer and uh it's really really good baseball and it's right it's an hour away half an hour away. Yeah. But if you Ken, but if you looked at it, we um just like going back a couple years, the city of New Buffett had a had a baseball team here too. Yeah. I I saw because I worked for him for a couple of years. I saw I saw um John Farrell's son come through New Buffett. I've seen I I saw Roco Badelli's brother play play in the city. Some local talent, too. Yeah. Um Jared Schustster played one year for us. Of course, he was the first round draft choice of the Braves in 2020 during the pandemic when they only had five rounds. So, the Braves, who had the best pitching staff in baseball at that time, invested in Jared Schuster. Now, last I knew he was with the White Socks. White Socks. Um I I watched that kid develop down in the south end of New Bedford, the South End League. Yeah. You coached him? Yeah. And a lot of the a lot of the guys um a little older than him even would would be more, you know, kind of joking, relaxed in the dugout. There's two directions the Democratic party can take. I think they'll make the correction. I hope they do, but this is very concerning when you when you see some of the things they stand for. These DSA uh radicals and they're getting money backing. They're getting they're getting the press and uh Platner could be a US senator. That's a scary thing. It's a scary thing up in Maine. So, it's not just New York. Um you know, Minnesota, Massachusetts, New York, those um Chicago always breeds the u the most radical as well. 508996 0500. What else we got here? We got um Omari Haley is not allowing ICE to come to courouses uh to a number of state state buildings to round up illegal immigrants. This you know if they have a if they have a judiciary uh warrant that's different but most of them are administrative warrants. It's two different kind of warrants. And if you don't have a judiciary signed by a judge warrant, you're not going to you're not going to be able to go to a court and wait for somebody to come out of court and grab them uh for immigration purposes. Um but federal law trumps state law. I don't know how that's going to go. Just it absolutely ridiculous. Gavin Newsome. Um, he's telling Californians, "Don't vote for this billionaire's tax," which surprises some people, but with more information, you'll understand because he wants he wants a national law, a national billionaire's tax passed so that people don't flee California. And I don't know how that would I don't know how that would fly in terms of where the money goes because if it's a government a federal government mandate, maybe the money would go to the federal government, not the state of California. But he's trying to prevent an exodus, which is what we're seeing. All kinds of money is leaving these blue states going to red states. Yeah. But if you look at it, like Massachusetts has the millionaire's tax, Ken. Yep. And it's that's why the that's why the millionaires are leaving Massachusetts. It's getting harder to get athletes to come here. When they look at the salaries they're being offered and they look at uh other teams that are offering them, sometimes even if they're getting slightly more here, it's going to amount to less because of this tax. Uh that's not the biggest problem, right? It's not I'm not saying that's a a make or break if if you're uh looking at uh the economy whether or not an athlete gets signed, but it's a it's just a symbol. Um I mean, Belich said it was a problem once it passed. Well, he does he was doing the negotiating for the Patriots on a number of these contracts. So, he's not, you know, he's not lying. 5089960500. We're just all Van Halen fans and we just, you know, got together and um it's pretty it's pretty close if I might if I might say so. Um I didn't real when I when I originally did this because I do the Bon Joy stuff. I'm better known for that. But when I when I went to this practice, I thought Keith was bringing me to a practice with guys his age, you know, kids. I was like, "Wow, they want to they want to work on Van Halen. How I definitely want to support that." I I go in there and these guys are just about my age. They found Keith. He was recommended. And uh and Keith, I have a photo of Keith uh in my home u in a diaper sitting on the floor watching Van Halen. Van Halen. And you know before he was four years old, he was we were putting pots and pans on the on the floor so he could play the drums. And you know um when his mom died, I got him a drum set just before his fifth birthday. And he never left it. We had to kept keep uh upgrading the drum kit over the years. He went to Dartmouth where Tomst saw some extraordinary ability. Toms took me aside and said and think about the Dartmouth music program. There's been some fantastic drummers over the year over the years. U this is now in the eighth grade. Uh Keith was in the eighth grade and he said, "I just want to tell you that I've never had a drummer as developed as Keith at this age." And you know what, Ryan? I've never paid for one lesson. Wow. Yeah, I I I've never paid for one lesson. And he's a fantastic backup singer as drummer, which is rare. And uh now, you know, he's on a short list of um people competing in a worldwide competition to be the next Skid Row vocalist. So, fingers crossed uh that they they see, you know, his age and his professional attitude and all that and and with a really good voice. I mean, I know the words. He's an actual singer. The the talent, too. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. So, um that's been that's what's happened. But I'm excited about this. Um so meeting Paul Stanley. So Ken, how many how many bands is Keith in right now? Like is it like four or five? He's in your Van Halen one. Yeah, he's got the um 719 with his wife. Two It's a They do a a twoman act, two person act. And they do everything, too. They they'll do the Eagles. They'll do ELO. Uh Taylor Swift. I mean, hey, he's in your bonjou v1. Um, not often. Yeah. Um, he's in it was often though and he's doing the firstborn originals band. He's the drum tech for Striper. He's in the Michael's sweet band. Uh, he turned down last year he turned down an opportunity to be Brett Michael's uh drum tech for his band. Um, he's going to be playing with Nuno Benton Court in November. He's really really busy. So I'm happy for him. He should be he should be this busy. That's a that's a national ask Brad Michaels. Ken, well new event court is might be the most important guitar player in the world right now. Um you know him from Extreme. He's playing with Rihanna. Um he played on the Aussie Osborne last show did Bark at the Moon while Jake El was there. He still did Bark at the Moon. Um, and so yeah, uh, his wife's dad is friends with Nuno and they got introduced. Nuno's going to have him come up and jam with him next year up in Hudson, Mass. They do this annual, uh, Thanksgiving thing. Um, anyway, so that's the latest with with the band stuff. Uh, we'll be playing in Hangingham. The Bon Joey band will be playing in Hangingham on July 10th at the um Hangingham Harbor Shipyard launch, which is a big big series. There'll be a couple thousand people there for that. Um still looking for for more shows though. Know what it is? It's tough to I get a I have a chart of who is where and who's available when and I have to figure out if I can field the team for this band or that band before I accept any dates. It's It's gotten complicated. Um anyway, some good shows been played. Um Sammy Hagar's band just came through. I didn't go I'm I'm sort of um embargoing Sammy Hagar because he just doesn't stop talking trash about David Roth and Eddie Van Halen. So, he's got a I'm not saying he's not talented. He's got a great life. Made a zillion dollars on the Cabo uh vodka and resort and all this stuff. I mean, a former singer for Van Halen after David Roth left. He had he was in town yesterday or Wednesday and um played in Mansfield with God David uh Kenny Aronov on drums, Michael Anthony on bass, Joe Satriani on guitar, right? Just a killer band. Uh Triumph has just played through here. I don't know if you guys remember the three three that's a great another great three-piece rush band, but they've I think they got six or seven members playing at the same time now. They're they're doing the old man sheet like everybody else now. Um and Rick Springfield opened for Sammy Hagar, you know, Jesse's Girl, 70 years old and he's in unbelievable shape. Like he just looks like, you know, besides the uh the gravity and what it does to uh our our human bodies, I guess he's in great shape, you know. Um, his second biggest song was I've done everything for you. You've done nothing for me. You know that song? That was written by Sammy Hagar and Rick was in the studio with him, 40, 45 years ago and just kind of played along and Sammy said, "You know what? You do this better than me. Why don't you take it?" Gave him that song. I don't even think he accepted royalties. Wow. Yeah. I want to like Sammy H. I just need him to just enjoy his life and stop talking smack about what happened when he was fired from Van Halen. Just get over it. My god. Um, who do you want to see? You're a country guy, though. Who what who was some action you'd like to see? I want I want um I want to see Luke Combmes, Ken. Hot hand right now. Is he coming? I uh he was he was he was in mass last year. I missed that one. Um well, I remember 25 years ago, right? Maybe a little more than that. You couldn't get country acts up here. There was no need. maybe in in um Guilford, New Hampshire, but it was almost a flyover area for country acts. Now they're I mean they're packing Fenway Park, they're packing Gillette and Mansfield. They're very very welcome. Yeah, cuz uh the artist that I think started the whole country revolution here, Ken, who did who did Thunder Road? Who's that? What was his name? Thunder Road. Ken uh Thunder, what was his name? go back early early to mid 90s with some of the big uh stars there. You had um No, Tes wouldn't be 90s. No. Well, maybe late 90s. He he I like him. He started he started the country revolution around here. Early in the They put some rock and pop because a lot of the he was at Gillette. a lot of the the talented rock musicians of the 80s had to abandon it because hair metal and all that stuff was just eviscerated by the grunge. So, they ended up going to country acts and it brought a little more pop to the country sound and that's I think was good for for country. Yeah. Um God, I can't remember his name. Brooks Brooks and Dunn are are still playing at their age. Yeah, but it's not like it's not the Kenny Rogers stuff anymore, right? Um, it has got some real rock and roll DNA in in the sound today. The productions like stepped up and um I'm just I'm happy about the direction it took and I think that's why it's now up in the Northeast. It's more popular. I always love the lyrics to Country Western, more virtuous. To me, it seems like they write more about stuff I would agree with. Uh, so Kenny Chzn, uh, Brad Paisley, another really good one. Yeah. Uh, Aldine. Jason Aldine. Jason Aldine. Uh, Luke Bryan. Yeah, Luke Bryan. Um, Shel, uh, Blake Shelton. Mhm. He's getting up there. Yeah, but he's big, man. He produces a lot of good hits. Uh, Faith Hill and her husband Tim McGrath. Tim McGrath. Uh, you could throw you could throw Kid Rock in there, Ken, because he's doing country. He's doing country now. Some of his I don't know that that's a genre I would agree with. Country west of kid rock. I know he's got a couple of songs that have that twang to it. Yeah. I I consider kid rock he's not kid country rock. No. Right. But look at even David the Roth um in the 90s was doing country tunes with Travis Trit. All right. Um Bon Joy did a whole country western record, right? Uh Who Says You Can't Go Home and all that. A really good record by the way and really well received by the country and western uh community. Uh so he crossed over and that was just so so good for him. I mean, as late as 2014, he was the biggest ticket seller in the world, uh, as far as the concert tours. And, uh, don't know if they'll ever see that again, right? Richie Sambor is not in the band. He's had some vocal uh, surgeries and problems, but uh, he was supposed to be Bon Joy is supposed to be touring with De Leopard this summer. I'm not sure if that's still the case, but that was that was the plan. Uh, I don't know if the the surgery or any setbacks change. That would have been a good ticket. You haven't seen that schedule either. Right. Yeah. Right. Uh David Lee Roth is actually touring. Uh and if you're going to see David Le Roth sing, don't you, you know, save your money. But if you're a fan of David Lee Roth and you want to just be in front of them, uh it's a good show. They have world class backup singers and and really good musicians doing all the classic Van Halen uh and some David Le Roth originals. But um at this point, you know, he's he's a museum more than a performer. Um, he's not doing splits off of a 16 foot speaker anymore. Anything like that, that's for sure. Uh, but Triumph, I understand Triumph sounded fantastic. Death Leopard still sounds great. Uh, Tommy Kefir from Cinderella still sounds fantastic. He's had four vocal surgeries. Yeah, Ken, I like I like what um the Vald's doing. If if you're like a fan of like old school music that they're booking bands like say if say if they like say if the bands have like days that they're playing around here they'll play they'll fit it in they'll play in Howy Mallows did a really good job getting these acts in and made the vault um you know very a very comfortable name for acts to consider. Uh that was thanks to him and I think Michelle has done a nice job since she's taken it over. Um it's been seamless which is not easy to do and for a small venue I mean people should be supporting the vault for sure and bringing some fantastic I mean I've seen members of Guns and Roses in there. Uh we we opened for Firehouse in there. Uh boy Yingve Momstein the great guitarist has been with there they've had I'm not going to do it justice but they've had some tremendous big names in there. Um, and that that will continue. I'd like to see the Citarian do more of that. They had um they had Night Ranger in there and they did very well with it, but uh for some reason they diversify so much it's it's a head scratcher. Yeah. Be Yeah. Before co they had um the three the three living members of Boys to Men there. Oh yeah. Yeah. Boys Men played at the Zen only. What was the other one? Is he with us still? No, he's dead. Oh, he died. Yeah, that was a very talented band. There's only three of them now. Fantastic. Fantastic vocals, the harmonizing. I mean, they had few few big hits. Yes. So, that's that's a good coup for the Z. Yeah, that was I think I think they played there be before uh before the renovations. Okay. I'd like to see, you know, I'd like to see come to their Do you remember Shannon let the music play? Um, Give Me Tonight. She was She was a big uh nightclub um per Well, not night. It was I guess it would be um R&B, but it was one of those songs that was just on every dance floor in the 1980s. One of our songs was always being played throughout the throughout the world really. and you you know you never hear about her anymore. I don't know why she was fantastic. Um stuff like that would I think sell you know uh let's see 5089960500 love to hear from you. Who who else um would you like to see come through? I'll ask the audience that as well. We did this a few weeks ago. We had a lot of fun with it. some of the who are the the greatest bands you've never seen that you wished you had when you had the opportunity. I would have said Lepelin, but I was really too young to um catch Led Zeppelin when they were touring um before Bonham died. But you had, you know, you had um Paige and Plant touring for a little bit with Paul Rogers and uh Paige doing some stuff if you wanted to catch them individually. And then uh they wouldn't work with John uh with uh what's his name? The basist and keyboard player. No. John Paul Jones. It wouldn't work with him for some reason. That that fell apart. You don't know Zeppelin? No. Who's your favorite rock band? Van Halen. Say it. Uh Aeros Smith can't. Yeah. A I I cuz I you know Ryan and I when we are in the car together I always catch him listening to Guns and Roses. I thought you were going to say Guns and Roses. No, that's on my fedora playlist. Yeah, Aerosmith. Well, listen. Van the Bad Boys of Boston. It's a great choice. Van Halen's on my playlist. Can as they should. AC/DC's on my playlist. Well, the greatest beach album, right? If you if you're at the beach and you're just chilling, right? The Van Hill 2. Ken, you playing in the you you playing the Vineyard this year? Mm- No. No. There's not You know what? It's not a great place to catch live music. uh like like mine, the stuff I would do, it's not there's not a lot of venues that that would um be suitable. And unfortunately, that's true for the city of Boston. Boston used to be one of the best live music scenes in the country, and it's just not it's not there anymore. I mean, you got to go out to Brighton or some place like that, but there's now, you know, like 3 4,000 seaters in Fenway Park and at the TD Garden North um for national acts. But, you know, if you want to catch a band that's rising, that those days are kind of gone. They rise through Spotify and individual efforts and I wouldn't even know how to do it today. I don't know how these kids can. I don't know how they get up there. They have national acts outside, don't they? At the where at the seapport? Oh, in Boston. Yeah. Yeah. That's that Well, that's that's like a seven 8,000 seater. That's a major uh the pavilion there. the the Blue Hill Pavilion there. Is that what you're talking about? Yeah, that's in Seport. That's a great venue. I mean, uh Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony played there not that long ago. They have always have good acts there. Um but for me, like I said, I think the Eagles, Aerrol Smith were the biggest regrets not seeing when I had the opportunity. Uh I never saw AC/DC live. That would have been fun. Yeah. I saw Ken I've seen like I've seen a lot of bands when I was doing Gillette Security. Yeah. I saw I saw Springsteen twice. Once gives you his money's worth. Once here, once in Philly. You saw him in Philly? Yeah. What' you go? Cuz we had to do we had to do security for to help out in Philly. They didn't have their own. No, they they just didn't have enough. Uh well, news this week affecting I think the region maybe the most could be the Supreme Court's ruling uh supporting the end to the temporary uh asylum status provided to Syrians and Haitians. I think um Justice Clarence Thomas sums it up best when he wrote, "Even assuming jurisdiction, the equal protection claim fails for the additional reason that aliens have no equal protection rights against the federal government. This is the only appropriate constitutional interpretation since our founders sought to protect American citizens, not foreign aliens. It It's a great point and I think you'll find almost everybody being a hypocrite at some point because we all have felt at some point American intervention was necessary to protect foreign citizens, right? I mean whether it was World War II uh you know it was we tried to stay out of it but eventually realizing that it would come here anyway but there are there are many situations that America has put their military in harm's way for the sake of others not ourselves. Uh but he's right the constitution protects American citizens not foreign aliens. Nor does it have jurisdiction over foreign aliens. And people are upset about this. It's a temporary order. Temporary. Temporary means it comes to an end. And again, if if the liberal armies of lawyers that didn't go and teach each and every illegal immigrant coming into our country how to claim asylum, how to explain that you need refugee status, we would be able to determine a lot better who actually is deserving of that. instead everyone is claiming it and it just not only bogs down the courts, it clouds, you know, it's like um screaming out um wolf, the boy who cried wolf. Eventually, people are going to stop paying attention to it or believing it. That's why that's that's why the story's out there as a a lesson. But yeah, I mean, we wouldn't be in a situation if they didn't get on there and teach people to lie to our government. And they did. Our own governor went attorney general was part of that know your rights campaign, all the NOS's and lawyers that were seld america south America, teaching organizations how to train every single one planning to cross the border how to claim asylum. So, you know, share the blame, be honest. Supreme Judicial Court, which wants the the Democratic Socialists want to abolish it, by the way. I don't see the wisdom in that at all. They want to abolish the border. They're not hiding it anymore. This is their goal. They want they want to see an end to borders. This is globalization. One world governance. You want to surrender your your sovereignty as an American to an unknown. And people come in, they they put their hand up to uphold the Constitution. And really, as we see, some are planning to tear it up. These are enemies. This is a malignancy that has to be stopped. Not scare tactics.
