The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating after two boats from Fairhaven collided near Menemsha Harbor.

Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class LaNola Stone says the crash was reported to Coast Guard Station Menemsha around 12:08 p.m.

Stone says the crash took place 1.5 miles from the coast and involved the Robert C, a 33-foot wooden hulled fishing vessel, and the Pedlar a 40-foot fishing vessel.

The crash caused the Robert C to take on water and it sank in roughly 50 feet of water.

One person onboard the vessel was picked up and no injuries were reported.

Stone says no damage was reported to the Pedlar and no injuries were reported to anyone onboard.

A slight amount of diesel fuel was found leaking from the Robert C, but Stone says it's not causing any major issues.

The captain of the Robert C has apparently decided not to salvage the vessel so the captain must now decide whether to plug the boat's vents or remove its fuel.
