United Interfaith Action is holding a community meeting on Tuesday, May 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church on Eighth Street in downtown New Bedford.

UIA's proposal includes creating more affordable housing in New Bedford, and establishing an emergency fund to help people pay overdue rents to avoid evictions.

After months of heated debate and passionate arguments for and against Innovation Schools, the New Bedford School Committee held its vote on the two proposals Monday.

Days before the School Committee vote on Innovation Schools,  backers of those plans rallied Thursday night at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church.  Several speakers from United Interfaith Action urged "yes" votes for the Esperanza and Renaissance Schools, but Mayor Jon Mitchell told the crowd of 200, he is still undecided...
