Bags, butts, and cell phones are on the Massachusetts Legislature's radar screen.

Chains such as Walmart are already using alternative bags. Leave it up to the businesses and the consumers, not city government.

A legislative committee has approved a bill that would establish a statewide ban on single-use plastic bags at supermarkets and other retail stores.

I'm OK with the plan to ban plastic bags.
