Cape Cod's offseason traffic nightmare is over. For now. Work has wrapped on the Sagamore Bridge which should make commutes a little more bearable.

The Massachusetts congressional delegation could not secure federal funding to replace the Sagamore and Bourne Bridges.

The application to replace the two Cape Cod bridges was rejected by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration on January 4.

Inflation and construction delays are driving up the cost of replacing the aging Cape Cod bridges, both of which are in need of repair.

The public sector is feeling the strain of soaring inflation, too: officials now expect that a once-in-a-generation infrastructure overhaul in Allston will cost $300 million more than estimated, and the price of replacing the Cape Cod bridges could more than double.

This is the COVID relief package that took six months to negotiate. It is a sham. It is disgusting, and it is an insult to the American taxpayer.

Maybe the next time the delegation might put their constituents' needs ahead of their partisan shenanigans.
