Bobcats are often reported in Southeastern Massachusetts. Wildlife officials say they’re rare. But just how rare, and are they on the rise?

Dartmouth Police Department has issued a warning about the rare animals following a large bobcat being hit on 195 on Monday evening.

A bobcat has been confirmed on Cape Cod for the first time since the Colonial era. Falmouth resident Chris LeBoeuf spotted an animal about the size of a small to medium dog when he was returning home at about midnight on Aug. 9. He took out his smartphone and made a 32-second video recording of the animal.
