A man charged with killing a Border Patrol Agent is in custody in the United States.

The Department of Justice announced that Lionel Portillo-Meza was extradited to the U.S. from Mexico on Tuesday. He was charged with first degree murder in the killing of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in a case tied to the government's "Fast and Furious" gun-running operation.

Terry was killed when he and other Border Patrol agents got into a firefight with Portillo-Meza and four others in a remote area along the Arizona-Mexico border in 2010.

Portillo-Meza pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bond at an arraignment in federal court in Tucson on Wednesday.
