State Releases “Medical Marijuana” Regs

Recipients of medical marijuana in Massachusetts would be allowed up to 10 ounces for 60 days under proposed rules issued by state health officials.

    Massachusetts voters passed a ballot question in November allowing for the use of medicinal marijuana for patients with certain medical conditions, including cancer, Parkinson's disease and AIDS. The proposed rules do not add any other conditions, instead leaving those decisions to doctors and patients.

    The law allows for as many as 35 dispensaries around the state where patients can receive up to a 60-day supply.

    The regulations issued Friday also set rules for how the nonprofit dispensaries will operate. Each will be required to cultivate their own supply of marijuana and no wholesale distribution of marijuana products will be allowed.

    The recommendations still need approval from the public health council.
