About 50 area residents gave state transportation officials an earful Tuesday as plans for a re-design of the Route 140-Route 6 intersection in New Bedford were presented.

Those plans call for additional turning lanes on Route 140 South and heading north on Brownell Avenue, and an added lane heading south from intersection on Brownell. That part of the design had many in attendance concerned, including Huntington Avenue resident Deborah Furtado...

The project is still in a design stage, with further review by state and city engineers expected following Tuesday's input meeting. The estimated price tag is two-point-nine million dollars, and construction is expected to be put out for bid next spring.
