With dozens of homes in South Dartmouth being urged to evacuate due to the storm, some residents are taking advantage of the shelter set up at the town's Council On Aging building on Dartmouth Street. Lyss Taylor and her 7-month-old daughter Tessa sought safety at the C-O-A.

Taylor's father stayed back at the family home on Vista Circle, just off Slocum Road in Dartmouth. The shelter has a 100 person capacity, and is staying open throughout the night for anyone looking for a safe place to wait out the storm.

A large oak tree was uprooted and toppled across the driveway between Dartmouth's DeMello School and the Council on Aging by Sandy's winds. Gusts were reported locally over 70 MPH.
