The Global Learning Charter Public School welcomed area veterans from the Veterans Transition House to attend a special breakfast this morning. It's the fourth year the veterans are welcomed to a Student of the Month breakfast, where they sit down with the students and share their experiences.

Lena Pires, Middle School Principal at Global Learning spoke to the vets this morning, and says it's important for the students to learn what it means to be a veteran.

David Hitchcock, an Army tank mechanic serving in Germany from 1971-1973 says the students should be taught at a young age the dangers many people, including veterans, face in everyday life.

The students performed several patriotic songs for the veterans, and presented them with an American flag, constructed with plastic toy soldiers painted red, white, and blue.
