Representatives from community groups throughout New Bedford met with local law enforcement officials Thursday, and workshopped ways to improve communication between them. T

he meeting was orchestrated by Department of Justice officials, after Mayor Jon Mitchell saw the rifts caused by the May shooting death of Malcolm Gracia at the hands of City police officers.

Speaking on WBSM's "More Than Just Talk" program, Mitchell says a basic action plan was formed at the meeting, in hopes of opening up lines of communication.

Community groups and the Police Department will continue the discussion over a period of time, and will also focus on improving public outreach efforts to minority groups and the city's youth.
