Mitchell Strategizes On Fishing Law Reauthorization
Debate on the reauthorization of the nation's commercial fishing law, the Magnuson Stevens Act is about a year away, and Mayor Jon Mitchell says he's working with industry leaders and members of Congress to make the changes the industry says it needs.
Speaking on his weekly radio program on WBSM, the Mayor said one of those changes has to do with government observers being assigned to fishing boats...
Mitchell says the law should also include more funding for marine science so all parties are confident about the information being used to set catch allocations.
Mitchell met with U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren this week, and took part in a panel discussion on the impact the fishing industry has on communities like New Bedford.
