It seemed like Melky Cabrera was on pace for a big season. Now we know why. The San Francisco outfielder was doping, and is now going to pay a big price. He has been handed a 50 game suspension. It will cause him to miss  the rest of the regular season, and some of the post season, if the Giants get in.

If he doesn't serve all 50 games in 2012, it will carry over to the 2013 season. This is what Cabrera had to say about the positive test.

My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used. I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and I will try to move on with my life. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and I apologize to my teammates, to the San Francisco Giants organization and to the fans for letting them down.

It is nice to see an athlete take some responsibility for their actions. It seems as though we are far from the end of the steroid era.
