'Tis the season to be snacking. Holiday cakes and candies are everywhere these days and some of Oprah Winfrey's favorite sweet treats are actually a lot closer than you may think.

Every year, Oprah releases the list of her favorite things just in time for the holiday shopping season. Typically, the items that make the cut sell really well and can often be game-changing for the small businesses that make them. For a couple of Massachusetts businesses, making the list has meant seasonal bragging rights for the past few years.

It seems once you make Oprah's favorite things list, you can hang your hat on it for a while. That is the case for Hilliard's Chocolates in North Easton. It was dubbed a favorite thing back in 2018 for its peppermint bark and Hanukkah peppermint bark and the company still have a page dedicated to that fact on its website.

I'm sure the peppermint bark is amazing, but if you choose to order I've got to suggest you try their almond toffee crunch, too. I'm no Oprah, but if I had a favorite things list of my own, the almond toffee crunch from Hilliard's would be on it. Toffee coated in chocolate then covered with almonds is absolutely amazing.

Then there's the delicious gourmet Liège Belgian waffles from Eastern Standard Provisions in Waltham. They are one of just seven food company's to make the list twice, scoring a spot in 2019 and again in 2021 for their gourmet Liège Belgian waffles gift box that includes the waffles along with sauces and toppings to create a sweet snack all your own.

Personally, I have never ordered from Eastern Standard Provisions, but this gift box does look amazing. I certainly would be thrilled to received one during the holidays and I'm sure thanks to Oprah, many people actually will.

So if buying someone on your list a little something sweet is your plan this holiday, then keep these local Massachusetts businesses in mind this season.
