After months of waiting, Dartmouth could have a plan for a permanent police station.

On Monday, the Police Building Committee presented options to the Select Board, including changing locations with a new building. However, the committee suggested a major renovation instead.

The plan would completely gut the current building, which has been closed because of mold and other dangerous health problems.

Board member, Stanley Mickelson says the $7,380,624 renovation is easier to sell residents than a brand new building at almost $12 million.

"It's a great compromise to have a, pretty much, 90-percent brand new building," Mickelson said, "State-of-the-art, all the newest equipment, just, it's just a no-brainer to me."

According to officials, the project would cost Dartmouth residents an additional $35 per year in taxes for 20 years.

The Select Board will now have to officially choose a plan, which will then be voted on at Town Meeting in October. If approved, construction is expected to start in December 2016.
