WATCH: This Maine Lobsterman Caught a Massive 100-Year-Old Lobster
Lobster in Maine is like sand at the beach.
The 10-legged crustacean and the Pine Tree State go hand in hand. It's just part of the deal.
So, sometimes seeing a lobster in the state doesn't feel all that unique or exciting, until you get a glimpse at a monster-sized one that looks like the king of the lobsters.
Maine Lobsterman Catches 100-Year-Old Lobster
Maine lobsterman Tyler Rice, who, according to his YouTube page, is a "6th generation lobster fisherman," shares some of his outdoor adventures on YouTube and social media.
He's got numerous videos of some of his catches, including the terrifying-looking wolffish, a slippery eel, and a rare blue lobster.
But it's one of his recent videos that should be a head-turner: Rice pulled in one of his traps a massive beast of a lobster.
In a TikTok video that has amassed over 2 million views, Rice said it's probably the biggest lobster he's ever caught.
He noted that the lobster is about 20 pounds and likely over 100 years old, suggesting it is possibly 130 to 140 years old.
Don't feel like doing the math? Let's just say that that's before World War I.
Rice even shows a size comparison, placing the biggest legal lobster he's allowed to catch next to the huge lobster. It's a big difference for sure.
Big Lobsters in Maine
This isn't the first (nor will it be the last) huge lobster caught in a trap in the Pine Tree State.
Maine lobsterman Jacob Knowles has seen his fair share of big crustaceans, and he often will share some of the ones he finds on social media. Like this one:
Knowles said in that video that the lobster is about 3 feet long and around 12 pounds.

According to AtoZ Animals, there was even a record-breaking 27-pound lobster caught off the shores of Maine in 2012. This beast garnered the nickname of "Rocky." More like Godzilla.
So yeah, lobster may feel pretty common in Maine, but not like this, not like these massive creatures of the deep.
And when you get a lobster big enough for its own area code, you're likely to get even the most seasoned of Mainers to go, "wow."
