Patriots Preview: New England Visits Old England for Jaguars Showdown
The New England Patriots are visiting Old England for an overseas showdown between two of the league’s weakest teams.
The 1-5 Patriots will face off against the 1-5 Jacksonville Jaguars. It’s one of those games where it feels surprising that one of these teams will actually come away with a win.
To be fair, there was a glimmer of hope in the play of rookie quarterback Drake Maye. He made some impressive throws at times last weekend. Was Maye perfect? Far from it – it was an ugly game – but Maye showed flashes of potential that suggest he can grow.
"I loved what I saw," ABC6 Sports Director Nick Coit said. "He wasn't perfect, but if I were to grade him on his first NFL start as a rookie, I'd give him a B+. He had some really good moments."
"What’s great to hear from the locker room is that he was hard on himself about his performance, so he obviously wants to improve," Coit said. "There are just a lot of great signs from the kid, and his talent is really obvious."
Nick Coit Picks the Patriots to Win
Coit noted that the Jaguars are struggling so much that he questions their current level of buy-in.
"If the Patriots come in with a rookie quarterback making his second start and beat them in London, there may be some jobs on the line in Jacksonville," he said.
Coit expects Maye to improve and earn his first win as an NFL quarterback.
