National Cereal Day is coming up next weekend, so we thought it would be important to do a little digging to find out what people are eating at their Massachusetts breakfast tables in 2025.

I grew up in a house where my mother forbade me to eat sugary cereals. It was an awful existence. All of my friends would be hopped up on Sugar Smacks while I was stuck with choices like Wheaties, Corn Flakes, and Kix. Talk about boring!

My mother's jurisdiction didn’t extend to my grandmother’s house, though, and she’d buy ALL the bad cereals. That’s where I fell in love with Fruity Pebbles and Froot Loops.

As America—and Massachusetts—trend toward healthier eating (or at the very least, become more health-conscious), are we seeing a shift in our cereal preferences?

The answer may surprise you.

Massachusetts' Least Favorite Cereals

First, we’ll start with Massachusetts' least favorite cereal. Surprisingly, Trix are for kids—just not in the Bay State. According to Google Keyword Planner, Trix ranked dead last among cereals in Massachusetts. While Trix isn’t particularly popular here, it still performs relatively well across America, so this might be an “us” thing.

The cereal that ranked second to last shocked me. I have a real problem with seeing Cap’n Crunch way down in the cellar. It doesn’t seem like the Captain deserves that. A cereal has to taste pretty great to make up for the pain we all endured while eating it. The cereal was infamous for ripping the roof of your mouth to shreds, but no one cared because it was so sweet and delicious. We might as well have been eating razor blades.
