A hopeful sign at New Bedford High School.

The state Office of Elementary and Secondary Education reports the 2014 graduation rate at New Bedford High School climbed to just over 70 percent from 66 percent the year before.

Superintendent Dr. Pia Durkin praised the high school's team of teachers and drop-out prevention specialists for showing progress in an area that had been declining every year....

Durkin says the drop out specialists not only identify students with learning issues, but work with them and their teachers every day to help them succeed.

Its the first time the graduation rate at New Bedford High School has exceeded 70% since 2006.
